Moonwave Privacy Policy
Effective date: 2026-06-07
Moonwave is a cycle and mandala journaling app. Cycle-related information can be sensitive, so the app is designed to avoid a Moonwave account system and to keep your journal under your Apple/iCloud account whenever sync is available.
Data You Enter
Moonwave may store the following information when you use the app:
- Cycle settings, such as cycle length, period length, and period start date.
- Daily mandala entries, including flow, mood, pain, symptoms, notes, powers, signs, colors, and confirmations.
- Custom powers, signs, colors, and glyphs.
- Notification preferences, language preference, trial start date, analytics preference, and purchase/entitlement state.
- Export files you explicitly create, such as JSON exports or PDF mandala reports.
iCloud Sync
Moonwave uses Apple's private CloudKit/iCloud sync for journal data. This allows your mandala history, powers, signs, settings, and daily logs to appear on your other Apple devices that are signed in to the same iCloud account and have iCloud available.
Moonwave does not create its own account for this data and does not operate a separate backend database for your journal. Your synced journal data is stored in your private iCloud database for this app. If iCloud is unavailable or disabled, Moonwave may continue storing data locally on the device until iCloud sync becomes available.
Apple's iCloud and CloudKit services are governed by Apple's privacy terms and settings. Data stored in a private CloudKit database is associated with your Apple/iCloud account and may count toward your iCloud storage.
Analytics
If analytics sharing is enabled, Moonwave uses PostHog EU Cloud to collect limited product analytics. These events help us understand broad app usage, such as onboarding completion, tab views, paywall views, purchase flow events, export actions, notification permission results, settings opens, and support taps.
Moonwave analytics are deliberately coarse. We do not send raw period dates, cycle start dates, daily notes, symptoms, flow values, mood values, pain values, mandala contents, export contents, names, email addresses, or other free-text journal data to PostHog.
You can turn analytics sharing on or off in Settings.
Purchases
Moonwave uses Apple's App Store purchase system and RevenueCat for purchase and entitlement management. Apple processes payment information and App Store receipts. RevenueCat helps Moonwave understand whether your lifetime unlock is active, restore purchases, and support purchase questions.
Moonwave does not receive your full payment card details from Apple.
Notifications
If you enable reminders, Moonwave stores notification preferences locally and uses Apple's notification system to schedule reminders. Notification permission can be changed in iOS Settings.
Exports
Exports are created only when you explicitly choose to export. JSON exports can include your full local journal data. PDF mandala reports can include cycle and mandala context. Treat exported files as sensitive.
Moonwave creates export files in temporary protected storage, excludes those temporary export files from backup, removes them after the share sheet completes, and cleans up stale temporary exports.
Deleting Data
You can delete Moonwave data from Settings. This deletes your settings, mandalas, daily logs, powers, signs, and other local journal data from the device, and those deletions sync to iCloud when iCloud sync is available.
If analytics was enabled and you want server-side analytics data deleted, contact support.
Support
If you contact support, we receive whatever information you choose to include in your message. Please avoid sending sensitive screenshots or journal exports unless they are necessary for the support request.
